You are actively blocking yourself from receiving money.
Yep, I said it. You’re probably not making as much money as you could, because you are actively blocking money from coming to you. Don’t believe me? Take a read.
In previous posts, I’ve talked about the flow of money and the importance of gratitude. The focus of my post Why You Need to Be In a Relationship With Your Money was learning to be grateful for money flowing away from you… but what about the money flowing towards you?
You might be thinking, “OK Michelle… obviously I’m grateful for the money I receive. Is that even a question?”
And the short answer to that, is a big fat YES.
YOU’RE PROBABLY BLOCKING YOURSELF FROM RECEIVING MONEY WITHOUT KNOWING IT
You may not be as comfortable receiving money as you think- in fact, most women aren’t.
Do any of these sound familiar?
- You keep your price points low, or constantly stress that they’re too high.
- You constantly overdeliver.
- You do not have systems in place for receiving payments (ie credit cards.)
- You make it over complicated for clients to pay you.
- You don’t ask or put off asking for payments when they’re owed.
- You offer free things or discounts too often.
If you’re sheepishly thinking about your own business practices right now, let me be the first to tell you: You’re not alone.
THE REAL REASON YOU BLOCK YOURSELF FROM RECEIVING MONEY
The habits I just listed are ones that so many women in business have, but very few of us ever take a good hard look in the mirror and figure out why.
Well, I know why- and I’m here to help you fix it.
Women in our society have grown up being fed a singular message that carries throughout our lives: “I’m not worthy.”
This applies to body image, to relationships, to career advancement, to how much space we take up on public transportation… and it also applies to money.
This sense of unworthiness causes us to feel shame about our financial decisions in several different ways. Here are some signals that you might be carrying money shame, even if you don’t realize it:
- You hide receipts
- You hide purchased items
- You’re afraid to invest in your business
- You don’t open or you hide your credit card bills
- Your family or friends view your business as a hobby
These habits stem from a sense of unworthiness and are instilled in us by our childhood experiences, our environment, and our peers.
I believe that about 80% of the blocks women put up to receiving money are based in money shame.
People try to address this shame through budgeting and structured debt repayment, as a means of regaining control. While these are valuable tools in your money management arsenal, this does not address the root cause of the issue.
What you need to address in order to move forward, is the deep seated sense of unworthiness that causes you to feel like you don’t deserve the money that could be flowing to you.
HOW TO REMOVE THE BLOCKS YOU’VE PUT UP TO RECEIVING MONEY
The number one thing you can do to remove the blocks you’ve put up to receiving money is this:
Increase your self worth.
Obviously, this is easier said than done. But here are the methods that I teach in my mastermind course and practice myself- and they are life-changing!
1. Writing in a Journal
Writing out your thoughts, feelings, actions and plans is an invaluable tool in your journey of self worth.
Meditation reduces stress and improves self-awareness, as well as increasing acceptance and happiness.
3. Maintaining a State of Calm
Striving to maintain a state of Rest and Repose when it comes to your money is key- it’s something I’ve talked about at length here and here.
4. Accepting the Flow of Money
As I’ve said before- at any given time there is money flowing to you and away from you. This is the natural flow of money, and you must accept it in its entirety to achieve true abundance.
5. Learning Awareness, Accountability, and Adaptability
Being calm about your money flow does not mean being ignorant to it. You need to be aware of your money flow, be accountable for your money decisions, and be adaptable when it comes to money changes.
6. Surrounding Yourself With People Who Get It
You don’t need to be around people who feed your money shame, like people who consider your business a hobby or someone that lays judgement on you for things you spend money on. What you need is to surround yourself with people who lift you up, understand your goals, and SUPPORT you in your journey.
By shifting your mindset, you can shift the money blocks that are preventing you from reaching your abundance. Join me on this journey, kiss goodbye to money shame, and become a Money Rockstar by subscribing to get these updates straight to your inbox!
